(2023 / 2024)

Mary Martin is back in her home town. As she walks the streets, the Towans and the beaches, her past floods to the present, awakening memories that simmer just beneath the surface of her otherwise happy life.

A monologue performed by Mary Woodvine (Bait, Enys Men), written by Sarah Connors and directed by Olivier-Award-winning Simon Harvey.

NOTE:  This performance contains strong language and adult themes and is not recommended for anyone under the age of 14. Trigger Warning:  This play explores themes of grief, loss and fertility.

Pilot tour (2023) including Poly Falmouth and Acorn Penzance. Reimagined for Minack Theatre, October 2023.  Tour dates for 2024 to be confirmed.

Originally a Seed commission by Sphinx Theatre, Levelling - now a full-length play - is currently in development with emerging director Millie Jones (Kneehigh, Wildworks).

Levelling is a play that explores the impact of the gentrification of Cornwall.

What people say

Untitled 2.jpg

Sarah’s writing gets right to the heart of things. Her stories and plays are about the messiness of lives, written viscerally but with great humanity, I am a little bit jealous."

About me

Screenshot 2021-09-03 at

I am a playwright living in Cornwall. I attended Luton University, and taught for twenty years in the primary sector. In 2019, I stepped away from a career in education to fulfil a long-held ambition to be a playwright. Since then, I have been shortlisted for the Papatango Playwriting Prize, Phil Fox Award, Nick Darke Cornish Award and the Theatre 503 International Playwriting Award for my play Pushing on Open Doors.  The Bush Theatre have sponsored me to take part in Sphinx 30 Lab - a groundbreaking scheme championing women playwrights. Last year, my debut play, Tre, was performed across Cornwall, with other exciting projects lined up for 2024 and beyond.
